An artform that aids understanding...

Process mapping is a much maligned methodology that has the capacity to change forever your understanding of your organisation.

Of course, what you choose to do with that understanding is another matter altogether. And therein lies the problem for process modelling and enterprise architecture. The results are often unpalatable so the technique is blamed. But a picture tells a thousand words...

To truly create value for your organisation, you need to blend the understanding you gain from your modelling with analysis of process behaviour and performance (statistical process control or SPC) and organisational development.

Together, these will help you to understand how the work done within your organisation relates to its Purpose.

Understanding is the foundation of any change programme, the U in U-A-I-P, the strategic planning model that turns command-and-control on its head and the foundation of your quality assurance process...
